Annual Maintenance of a Large Leylandii Hedge
R Watson Tree Surgery recently carried out the annual maintenance of a large Leylandii hedge at a property in Lancaster, North Lancashire.
The hedge had been maintained regularly over the years but had reached a size where carrying out the work safely and efficiently from the ground was no longer practical.
Using a MEWP for Safe Access
Due to the height and width of the hedge, we completed the work using a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP), often referred to as a cherry picker.
The hedge had grown to almost the same width as its height, making access from ladders both difficult and inefficient. Using a MEWP allowed us to work safely while achieving a neat, even finish across the full length of the hedge.
The Importance of Regular Hedge Maintenance
Leylandii are one of the fastest-growing hedge species in the UK and can quickly become difficult to manage if left unchecked.
Regular annual trimming helps maintain a dense, healthy hedge while preventing it from becoming excessively wide or overgrown. Keeping on top of routine maintenance is often far more cost-effective than allowing a hedge to become unmanageable before cutting it back.
The Finished Result
Following the annual trim, the hedge was left neat, tidy and well-shaped, ready for another season of healthy growth.
Working from the MEWP also provided some impressive views across Lancaster from the top of the hedge—a perspective few people get to enjoy!
