Cherry Tree removal, Hornby, North Lancashire

Removing a Mature Cherry Tree to Improve Light Between Two Properties

R Watson Tree Surgery was asked to remove a mature cherry tree at a property in Hornby, North Lancashire.

The tree stood on the boundary between the client’s garden and a neighbouring orchard. Although it was healthy, it had grown to a size where it was significantly reducing the amount of natural light reaching the neighbouring property and garden.

After discussing the available options with the client, the decision was made to remove the tree completely.

Balancing the Needs of Neighbouring Properties

Tree work isn’t always carried out because a tree is dangerous or diseased.

Sometimes a mature tree simply outgrows its location or begins to have a significant impact on neighbouring gardens. In this case, the cherry tree had become a source of heavy shade, affecting both the garden and the amount of daylight reaching the adjacent property.

Removing the tree provided a long-term solution while improving the relationship between the neighbouring properties.

Careful Removal Along a Boundary

Working on boundary trees requires careful planning to ensure the work is completed safely while respecting neighbouring land and property.

Before work began, the site was assessed to determine the safest method of removal and to ensure the surrounding orchard and neighbouring garden were protected throughout the operation.

The tree was dismantled in a controlled manner, allowing each section to be removed safely before the remaining timber was processed on the ground.

The Finished Result

With the cherry tree removed, the neighbouring garden immediately benefited from increased natural light, creating a brighter and more open outdoor space.

Although it is never a decision to take lightly, removing a mature tree can sometimes be the most appropriate solution when it has simply outgrown its surroundings and no longer meets the needs of the property.
