Removing Two Mature Trees to Make Way for a New Cabin
R Watson Tree Surgery returned to Crab Tree Clay Shoot near Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria, to remove a mature sycamore and an ash tree to prepare the site for the installation of a new cabin.
Both trees stood directly above the existing cabin, making their removal necessary before work on the replacement building could begin.
Choosing the Safest Method for Each Tree
Although the two trees grew side by side, each required a different approach.
The sycamore had sufficient open space in front of it and was safely felled in one piece.
The neighbouring ash tree, however, was positioned much closer to the existing cabin, making conventional felling unsuitable. Instead, it was climbed and dismantled in carefully controlled sections, with each branch and limb lowered safely to the ground using specialist rigging equipment to protect the building below.
Selecting the most appropriate method for each tree allowed the work to be completed safely, efficiently and without damage to the surrounding structures.
Preparing the Site for the New Cabin
Once both trees had been removed, the timber and green waste were processed and cleared from site, leaving the area ready for the next stage of the project.
Although we were focused on managing the rigging operation rather than taking photographs, the images show the substantial size of the timber removed and the completed work.
